Roanoke Valley Mental Health Care Collaborative

The Roanoke Valley Mental Health Care Collaborative provides free mental health assessments, psychiatric care, access to medications, and counseling services to adults with mental illnesses or emotional disturbances who lack financial access to, or are ineligible for, services in any other system of care.the following services to adults with mental illness who are residents of the Roanoke Valley. Eligibility is based on income, lack of adequate insurance coverage, and ineligiblity for mental health treatment in any other system of care available in the community. 

The goal of treatment is to decrease the severity of symptoms of psychiatric disorders, enabling clients to improve their performance at work or school, strengthen family and personal relationships, and enhance their day-to-day functioning.

The Collaborative is staffed by a cadre of mental health professionals who volunteer on a regular schedule each month.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for mental health care through the Collaborative you must::

  • be at least 18 years of age and no longer enrolled in high school;
  • be a resident of Botetourt County, Craig County, Roanoke City or County, or Salem;
  • have limited financial resources (income at 200% of the poverty level or lower, no health insurance coverage, or inadequate coverage for mental health care);
  • be ineligible for mental health services through other systems of care available in the community; and
  • be able to benefit from psychiatric care and medication management, counseling, or a combination of the two.

The Roanoke Valley Mental Health Care Collaborative is a member of the Virginia Association of Free Clinics and the National Association of Free Clinics.
